National Vaccination Issues and Information

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) website has a section on immunization laws in the United States.

One section of interest is A matter of law: Parents must be informed. Quoting from this section: “By law, parents, guardians, or patients must be given information in writing about the risks and benefits of vaccination before a vaccine is administered.” The section then references “Vaccines and Immunizations” on the website of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Of particular interest is the section on “Vaccine Safety and Adverse Events.” Forms are provided for reporting a vaccine adverse event, either on-line or on a paper form.

Most states offer a religious exemption. In a Federal court the Wexler Decision held that limiting religious exemption solely to "bona fide members of a recognized religious organization" was unconstitutional, but some states laws still hold to this narrow and restrictive view.
