What You Can Do 1) If you don't know who your
representatives are, you can check our links to find government
officials and legislation status, or call the League of Women Voters (N.Y.C. office:
212-674-8484) in your area.
2) Call or e-mail your representatives' local offices and request copies of the
bills. This shows your awareness and concern. You can ask for up to 10 copies.

3) Develop your response to these bills. Be specific about what is and is not
representative of your values and potentially antagonistic to our rights, etc. State if
you want the bills scrapped and/or suggest alternative wording to illuminate and
accurately define the aspects of concern. Whether you call or write, ask hard questions
(like ones which need to be researched) so that you don't get "generic"
responses or form letters.
4) Ask for timely appointments to meet with reps or their aids. Go alone or with
others. Bring literature.
5) Open & maintain a dialogue. Request updates as they happen. Call
periodically to track the progress.
6) Copy, disseminate and post this information sheet and the bills. Get the word
out.
7) Consider sending us copies of your letters and their responses.
8) Meet with us in Manhattan (call
212-473-8201) and/or organize in your area to exchange ideas and to plan and coordinate
actions.
Thank you!
